Mark, right now I’m building up a base (with 120 free subscribers) since paid subscribers are a small percentage of all free subscribers. It’s a numbers game, as always. I feel like I need to have at least 1,000 free subscribers before I can turn on the paid subscription option. I’m planning to charge $5 a month (on the basis of my informal survey among Substack writers). So if I can get 1,000 free and 100 paid subscribers within the next 3 months, I think I can continue sharing my best writing for $500 a month and take it from there. But anything less than that would force me to evaluate whether to continue my Substack channel or not since I believe all professionals should be compensated and they should not continue to offer quality stuff forever for free.
