I think this is more plausible than little green creatures driving for tens of thousands of years across the universe, making themselves visible just long enough to mess around with our brains. The radar sightings from 1952 have been discredited as weather anomaly but the UFO fans will have none of it. We still don't have any hard forensic evidence for UFOs. So yes, your hypothesis is definitely plausible and must be researched further.
