C.K., I respectfully disagree with (1). I believe, on the contrary, they are trying to put this thing to bed and minimize the focus on UFOs. They'd rather have us forget the whole thing than get ready for "bigger news." Given the state of the economy and society, the last thing they need is an earth-shattering revelation about UFOs.
I agree totally with (2) and (3). You are right on the money there, which is a natural corollary of my take on (1). "Shiny objects" are always great to divert attention and have us forget about the real concern on any topic.
I doubt if a higher civilization's members are already here on earth. How can they travel from Proxima Centauri, for example? How long would that take? (I actually calculated that one: 4,900 earth years for one-way travel at 1 million miles an hour.) What other specific planet you think they arrived from? It sounds great as a general idea but crumbles when you get down to the specifics.
Secondly, WHY should they visit us and start to live among us? What's the benefit for THEM to embark on such a costly intergalactic voyage? What's in it for THEM? I can't think of a single reason why. It still doesn't make any sense to me.
Waiting for a Whistleblower is Waiting for Godot. We are waiting for the last 60 years and still no one has shown up.
But overall, I thank you for your thoughtful feedback.
